Quite a week: I was able to start my pannetone project, but I only baked one loaf. It was time consuming but attractive and tasty. I reckon it will get quicker as I get more familiar with the process. I hope so.
Margaret baked with me on Thursday. She wanted to make her own vanilla cake, so I modified a batch of pannetone with her. It made for a pretty bready cake, but she seemed pleased, especially after we applied the cream-cheese frosting. I also baked two loaves of wheat bread that worked pretty well: nice crunchy crust with a slightly sour, yeasty bite. We’re not eating enough bread to support my baking habit; perhaps this is a good way to make better friends of our neighbors.
My running was been miserably spotty this week. The super blast of cold and an unusually busy schedule (for me) slowed me down. Monday was terrific; I had a short run on Tuesday and missed Wednesday and Thursday altogether. On Saturday I ran up the river from 92nd back to Inwood. Each week brings the promise of some consistency. We’ll see how I do THIS week.
